I take it this one was a sexual experience with a pop star you didn't enjoy so much, Swiss?

Worst music in the world but sad to see anyone die. RIP Eddie.

Re: Eddie Van Halen Hovis
Different era to mine.
As Northern said not my favourite guitarist either sounds more electronic than actually playing the guitar.
Obviously that's just my opinion but not in the same league as Gary Moore or Joe Bonamassa.
Still died to young.RIP.

Not my cup of tea …all a bit `waynes World party time… excellent’…

But … RIP anyway…

Yeah his sound is fantastic! One of the ones that made me want to start learning the guitar when I was little.

Am I even 1% as good? Am I fuck!

That middle bit in Panama is just brilliant.

Always loved his tone.

Pretty much like all their stuff.

Just so gutted as it was the one big rock band I never got see live.

They tried to get Patty Smyth as a singer when DLR left, she turned them down, good move Patty

PS If you're not a fan of the post Roth era, I would still give a listen to the instrumental Baluchiterium from the Balance album. Really nice groove and just Eddie, Alex and Michael playing together.

Good post. He did inspire thousands to copy what he did, but almost universally they took the flash bits and totally overused them, and completely missed the subtlety and musical aspect of the rest of his playing.

Fair Warning is probably my favourite VH album, and even those first two tracks Mean Street and Dirty Movies show just how different he and VH the band were from the Sunset Strip wannabees.

History of electric guitar playing? - Hank, Eric, Jimi and Eddie. Pretty much all of it there with those four.

RIP Eddie, absolute genius on the guitar.

Genius guitarist who influenced a generation. Shame. 65 not really all that old these days but a heavy smoker. Cancer is a cunt.

Hard to imagine that ‘Eruption’ was released 42 years ago, if I’d have practised every day since I first heard it in 1978 I’d still not get close. Sad news indeed.

Re: Eddie Van Halen Hovis
Roth was a twat? Of course he was! But he was a "rock star".

And Van Halen died as a band the day Roth left*. I can't even name a VH song post 1984. All shit, probably.

I'll second that - whatever you think of MJ, the way that guitar solo just rips out of the speakers is still magic.

RIP Eddie.

Re: Eddie Van Halen Hovis
Sad news.

Bloke was a savant / genius.

Sadly, he helped invent ubercunts like Vai, Satriani and a billion worst-ever LA shitebands. With no style or humour.

I may even regress and listen to Fair Warning. RIP, Edward.

not a fan of any of their line-ups, but I do appreciate his guitar playing

Was working with Van Halen in late '70s. Got thrown off the Tower of London by a couple of Beefeaters who got moody because the band were dressed in Coldstream Guards uniforms.

Good Blokes.

RIP Eddie

Re: Eddie Van Halen Hovis
65. No age. And the Big C strikes again. I fucking shit that disease. Always thought they were better off with Sammy Hagar. (Roth was a twat. Maybe still is.?) Even if that music ain’t to your liking. That solo in Beat it is enough to be remember by.

RIP Eddie.

Re: Eddie Van Halen Hovis
